Our Pupils’ perspective

In RE, we learn about Christianity and other world religions, so that we can appreciate other beliefs and values as well as our own.

Subject Leader

Our highly experienced RE Lead in school is Mrs Patel. Mrs Patel has been our RE Lead for many years. She enjoys exploring different religions and making links to her own beliefs and values. She firmly believes that our children should learn about different events and key figures from the Bible, but also know how the teachings of the Bible are reflected in the teachings in other world religions. By understanding and accepting other religions in the world, we can live more peacefully and in harmony with each other, which is in line with our British Values.

Subject Intent

Our school values and scripture are at the centre of all our teachings in R.E.  Through our lessons, minds are opened as we explore theology based on the Bible. Diversity is embraced though our study of world religions and children develop respect for different beliefs. Excellence is encouraged as our children’s individual thoughts and beliefs are nurtured as part of a firm foundation within R.E.

Religious Education in our school will help pupils to:

  • reflect theologically and explore the ultimate questions and challenges of life in today’s society;

  • reflect critically on the truthful claims of Christian belief;

  • see how the truth of Christianity is relevant today;

  • understand the challenge faced by Christians in today’s modern society;

  • develop the skills to handle the Bible text;

  • recognise that faith is based on commitment to a particular way of understanding God and the world;

  • begin to develop their own commitments, beliefs and values;

  • develop a sense of themselves as significant, unique and precious;

  • experience the breadth and variety of the Christian community;

  • engage in thoughtful dialogue with other faiths and traditions;

  • become active citizens, serving their neighbour;

  • find a reason for hope in a troubled world;

  • understand how religious faith can sustain believers in difficult circumstances and in the face of opposition;
