At St Luke and St Philip’s, we identify that inclusion is the ‘Golden Thread’ of all teaching and learning, to support children in our ambition to make learning ‘irresistible’ and to develop ambition, resilience and kindness.
Our Inclusion Strategy is designed with three primary aims:
- To develop independence
- To encourage resilience
- To empower confidence
These three aims have been designed linked to our understanding that Inclusive Practice is most effective when children are able to work independently. The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) highlights that teaching metacognitive and self-regulation strategies supports pupils to become independent learners who can plan, monitor and evaluate their own progress. Similarly, the EEF state that high-quality inclusive teaching uses scaffolds to support pupils initially, but that support gradually withdraws to foster independence. Similarly, the OFSTED Education Inspection Framework highlights that effective inclusive practice enables pupils to become independent, without over-reliance on adult support. The Department for Education (DfE) SEND code of Practice states that education should prepare children for adulthood, employment, independent living and participation in society.
Our Strategy has been created to ensure that independence, resilience and confidence is fostered in all children, regardless of needs.
